Class rep co-ordinators: Wendy Chivers and Aisling Young
Here is a list of all the class reps for 2009/2010 followed by some repping top tips:
Class Reps - What do we do?
Being a class rep is an important and rewarding role. Class reps help build a sense of community among the class parents, and it is they who provide the link between the parents and the PTA. Class reps are invited to attend the PTA Committee meetings to gain a broader understanding of what the PTA does for the school, and to lend their expertise and time if they choose. Below is a summary of what a class rep does.
Maintaining Class Lists
Keeping (and circulating) an up to date list of all the children in the class and their contact details. It is very important to get everyone's permission to be added to the list. This is a very handy list for everyone in the class to have, for everything from playdates to emergency pick-up help!
Organising Socials for Parents
Class coffee mornings and parents’ evenings are always good fun and the most effective way of generating a good team spirit in your class (which makes enlisting volunteers for school fairs much simpler and easier when the time comes). It is totally at your discretion how often to organise them, although as a general rule, drinks are usually held at Christmas and at the end of the school year, and coffee mornings a minimum of once a term.
Top tip: When booking your Christmas or End of Year parties, do let Wendy know (wchivers@vision-first.com) so she can make sure they don't clash with any other year group, for parents with more than one child at the school.
Christmas Fair and Summer Fair
Every year group is allocated stalls (seethe releant pages on this website for each event), and class reps are responsible for co-ordinating the preparation, rota and clearing up, and learnings/ notes. Detailed information of how to run the stall is kept in the famous Red Books, and more recently in notes that are kept on-line, in which previous reps have written their top tips and how they planned the day. Contact the rep co-ordinators for the link to the on-line notes.
Once the fair is over, you are asked to type up the learnings from your stall and send them to Maia Dickson to be uploaded onto the PTA section of the website. This is invaluable to the following year’s reps and avoids time wasting and wheel reinventing!
Teacher's Presents
Again this is at your discretion. Sometimes parents prefer to get together and pool money to buy presents for the teacher at Christmas and end of year and if so, the Class Reps co-ordinates this. Class reps also generally co-ordinate a card or similar for the teachers with messages from the children at Christmas and end of year.
Top tip: Some reps find it easier to collect £5 - £10 or so at the beginning of the year from the parents to cover Christmas and Summer gifts / going away presents etc, thus avoiding the necessity of having to chase people several times a year for money.
Other bits
Sometimes, if children leave Sheen Mount, the Class Reps co-ordinate gift and cards
for them.
Communication: Some teachers
appreciate help with communication to parents.
Next Year's Reps
Towards the end of the year, find a lovely volunteer to rep the next year.

Class reps asked to volunteer/ help find volunteers for stalls (BBQ and gizmos stall) plus help with tidying up after the event.
