SHEEN MOUNT PTA

Who are we?
If you are a parent of a child at Sheen Mount you're automatically a member of the PTA! There's no joining fee, no monthly direct debit, just automatic inclusion into an organisation that works to make things better for your child. We are a charitable organisation (charity no: 295212)

What you need to know to get the most from your membership
Sheen Mount School Parent Teacher Association is a fun, sociable, charitable organisation and our main aim is to raise funds for the school to purchase equipment and facilities that the school could not otherwise afford to buy.
We're made up of parents, teachers (the clue is in the title) and governors. Membership begins TODAY and ends when your last child leaves the school. You have unlimited access to all the formal and informal PTA meetings and an open invitation to get involved and volunteer for as many of the fund raising events as you would like.

What can I do to help?
We need people who have special skills from all year groups to help the PTA. Can you make coffee? Can you pour wine? Can you wire a plug? Count money? Keep spirits from flagging when it's nearly midnight and the kitchen needs to be tidied after an event? There's a huge variety of ways you can be part of the PTA - either as a committee member or on an ad hoc basis at different events.

So what else do we do?
Due to the hard work and dedication of everyone at the school, in 2007/2008 we raised over £37,500 from various events and sales held throughout the year. Our main focus, along with the Govenors and Staff, has been to refurbish the school kitchen to bring to the school a brand new sparkling kitchen from which we provide hot meals for all the children - which successfully opened and served it's first meals in Jan '09.

But it's not just the big projects - in the last few years the PTA has also funded:

• computers, books, equipment and furniture for the Hub (ICT Library)
• interactive whiteboards for each classroom
• sports and PE equipment including new sports kits
• funding focus week i.e. enviromental, arts and music weeks
• shade and seating for the playgrounds
• curtains, stage lighting and sound system for the new hall
• refitted the medical room
• annual Chessington trip for Y6 and annual teachers' allowance to spend on incidentals for the classroom

We are also closely linked to the Apple Tree Fund, a fund set up to build the fantastic new hall which was completed in autumn 2005.

What are we working towards?
This is the fun bit! At the beginning of the year, Mrs England puts together a wish list of items needed for the school and the committee decides which items they want to purchase using PTA funding. The focus for this year's fund-raising (2008-2009) will be discussed in the PTA meetings at the beginning of this term - please feel free to come along, everyone is welcome!
